Osteopathy emerged in late 19th century in the U.S from dissatisfaction with medicine which likely suggested bloodletting as the main treatment for any conditions at that time.
Dr. A.T Still developed a new system of healthcare based on the principle that the body's structure and function are interrelated and that disturbances in one can affect the other. He studied the interconnectedness in between all the different systems/ parts/ organs / muscles/ circulation… in the body.
That’s the reason why we classify Osteopathy as a holistic manual therapy which approach is also in the interconnectedness in between body, mind and spirit.
It’s way more popular in the Eastern part of Canada than in British Columbia. And Osteopathy is way more popular in Europe than chiropractic. We work on musculo squeletal system, fascia, cranio sacral system, muscles, ligaments, nerves, blood circulation, lymphatics, visceral...
Patients may choose one form of therapy over another based on their individual needs, preferences, and the recommendation of their healthcare provider. It's also not uncommon for patients to receive care from more than one of these disciplines, as they can complement each other in certain cases.
